Boys Basketball Season

As winter sports wrap up, the Caney Valley boys basketball team ended the season with an 11-10 record. The beginning of the season looked grim for the Bullpups starting 0-4. They then picked up their first win against Baxter Springs. After the fifth loss, the Bullpups went into the Caney Valley Oklahoma tournament as the sixth seed. They then picked up an impressive win against a top ten ranked Caney Valley Oklahoma team. They finished the tournament 1-2 and at this point, they were 2-7. However, the team turned it around winning 9 of their next 11 games. After a tough loss to Erie for the league title, the Bullpups won their final two games to go into sub-state as the 4 seed. They played the Riverton Rams and came up short in the final few minutes of the game. Senior Gage Grant said, “We had a good season, I wish we could have made it a little farther in playoffs but I’m proud of how we played as a team”
As the season wrapped up Senior Jack Billingsley led the scoring with 13.2 points followed by Senior Anthony Rogers with 11.2 points and Senior Gage Grant with 11.1 points. Coach Deaton said, “I thought we had a great season. It started out a little rough, but the boys never showed any signs of discouragement. We continued to improve as a team and ended up winning 8 of our last ten games to finish 11-10. We’re really going to miss this group of seniors. I’ve enjoyed coaching them over their four years of high school.”
